InDemand to Attend 2017 American Society for Health Risk Management Conference

The American Society for Health Risk Management (ASHRM) 2017 will be holding its annual conference, “Bridging Innovation and Value,” on October 15 – 18 in Seattle next week. ASHRM connects attendees with the leading findings and innovations in healthcare to reduce risk, improve patient safety and create value for health systems. The conference provides an opportunity for healthcare risk management professionals to connect with and learn from industry leaders.

Risk Management for Language Access

One of the issues we look forward to discussing at the conference is language access. To successfully manage risk and remain compliant with the law, healthcare providers must develop comprehensive language access programs to ensure patients and providers are able to effectively communicate.

With over 25 million residents in the U.S. who require spoken language interpretation and four million people who are Deaf or hard or hearing and require American Sign Language (ASL), the numbers are not trivial.

It’s also not surprising that 80 percent of hospitals report frequent (63 percent daily/weekly; 17 percent monthly) encounters with Deaf and limited English proficient (LEP) patient populations who require access to medically qualified interpreters. Federal and state law requires that healthcare organizations provide language access, which is becoming more difficult.

What is the Solution?

Fortunately, today’s healthcare providers can choose from a number of interpreting modalities that provide language access: on-site, over-the-phone and video remote interpreting (VRI).

VRI is one of the most efficient modalities for immediately enabling healthcare organizations nationwide to bridge the communication gap with their LEP, Deaf and HOH patients. InDemand Interpreting immediately connects clinicians and healthcare professionals to medically qualified interpreters 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in more than 200 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL) and Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDIs).

We look forward to exhibiting InDemand Envy in booth #731 at ASHRM as one solution for providing language access to better serve the needs of LEP, Deaf and HOH patients. We encourage you stop by and see us at the show.
