HIMSS18 Recap

We had the opportunity to attend the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition, HIMSS18, a show that brings together 40,000+ health IT professionals, clinicians and executives from around the world. As always, there were exceptional education opportunities, world-class speakers and impressive new healthcare IT products this year.

InDemand Interpreting and Oneview Health Demonstrate Expanded Access to Medically Qualified Interpreters

InDemand’s partner, Oneview Healthcare, the Australian-listed Irish healthcare company, featured the integration with InDemand video remote interpreting (VRI) technology at HIMSS18. The demonstration of Oneview’s interactive patient care solution integrated with InDemand VRI was very well received at the show. The conference provided a platform for healthcare leaders to experience the smart bedside solution and its ability to now bridge the language gap between providers and their limited English proficient (LEP), Deaf and hard of hearing (HOH) patients.

InDemand Interpreting Clarity – Connect integrates with Oneview’s smart bedside solution to improve the patient experience and optimize provider investment with immediate access to a medically qualified interpreter through the innovative platform to empower the care team, improve language access and ultimately, patient outcomes. Conference attendees responded very positively and were impressed with the seamless integration and the ability to contact an interpreter from the bedside. We look forward to additional feedback as healthcare organizations continue to adopt the patient care solution with the integrated VRI technology.

Interoperability Continues to be a Priority

From the conference key note to vendor demonstrations, interoperability was a consistent theme throughout the conference. Advancing interoperability and understanding how we can better evaluate technologies, concepts and policies to understand which approaches are leveraging the most impact continues to be a top conversation.

This was of particular interest to our team due to the launch of InDemand Clarity – Connect last year, which enables our healthcare partners and telehealth application providers to seamlessly add live, medically qualified interpreters into bedside media and telehealth sessions on demand, providing access to anytime, anywhere interpreting.

It’s always fascinating to gain a broader perspective of the challenges and opportunities facing the healthcare industry and it reinforces why we are all here – to support providers in improving patient care. I left HIMSS18 inspired and motivated to continue to fulfill our mission to improve communication with clinicians and their limited English proficient, Deaf and hard of hearing patients to ensure that every patient has access to high quality patient care, regardless of language, cultural background or disability.
